With consumer electronics what they are, it’s super easy to think of solar as a consumer product that follows computer technology. Solar is actually a super mature technology. The first installation was done by Bell labs in 1954 and is still producing power today. The same technology they used then is the same thing we use today. In the last 10 years, solar modules have increased in efficiency about 2%. Also, you replace your cell phone because after 3 years there is something faster and your interaction with it will change. Solar modules produce power. If at some point they have a more efficient technology, it will just mean you have one or two less solar modules on your rooftop. But nothing else changes. Because the output is kWh. Your devices don’t care if that’s a “newer, more effective” kwh, a kWh is a kWh.
